Something else I've taken up is playing with beads and jewelry findings. I've had a request to put more of these up on the website, so here they are.

Seamstress Apron 2008

The Fabric Place had an apron competition, where customers were invited to make aprons. The winning aprons won gift certificates. I did not win, and I think the aprons that did win are kinda dull by comparison. However, they are also more appropriate for spring fashion, whereas mine is blatantly too dark—better for a winter competition or something. Still, it was disappointing after all that handwork.

Halloween 2004

Here's my bellydance costume.

     

I wore this costume to a Halloween party in 2004. The picture here is me with my friend Andy, who is dressed as a pun. He's got his armor on, and a helmet with two cup holders where he's placed tonic water. See, he's a Teutonic Knight. Get it?

Belly dancing costume for adults

The top was made with teal-and-violet taffeta, then trimmed with black iridescent bead-fringe trim and a fancy paisley ribbon.

The skirt yoke was made from the same taffeta as the top. The design called for eight panels sewn together with a ruffle. Instead, I lengthened the skirt panels and kept them separate.

The top layer is eight panels using a violet-and-teal shimmer sheer material, where I cut half of the panels in one direction and half in the other so that, although both colors show in the panels, they also seem to alternate between violet and teal.

I lined the skirt with eight more panels, just a tad shorter, using a violet lining. All sixteen panels have a rolled hem, with a peacock-colored wooly nylon.

The silver coin belt I bought at a Renaissance fair.
